Another year passed. Another year of blessings and lessons. Like every other year, we promise ourselves to do better, make audacious decisions, and be shamelessly bold for the coming new year. But, as much as we say au revoir to the year passing by, we show gratitude for all the valuable life lessons and show how to live a virtue-balanced life.

With a cup of coffee and wrapped in a blanket, I would gladly accept 2021 as the year where I became more confident, accepted my toxic traits, and promised to take rest when my body demanded. It was a filler year for me — not too good or bad—just content.

I cannot fathom what I liked at the start of the year, but as the weeks passed, I grew. I suppose one never realises how much one grows until they reflect on or transmit an action. Everything that happened wasn’t planned. Everything that happened couldn’t have been planned. The pandemic has changed life paths and goals for a lot of people. Routines were interrupted. Relationships either ended or became stronger and reached new heights. Career choices were evaluated. Families became closer and either grew in acceptance of one another or fell apart. You either fall more in love with your city or realise that it’s time to leave.

There are many things I have learned, but there are some that will leave an imprint for life.

  1. Live in the present.

2. One real friend is better than 10 friends.

3. Practice audacity every chance you get.

4. Relinquish shame.

5. Take pictures.

6. Family is your biggest strength.

7. Spend money on experiences, not on things.

8. Laugh till you cry out.

9. Work smart, not hard.

10. Always show empathy and kindness.

11. Health really is the new wealth.

12. Happiness on social media doesn’t mean happiness in life.

13. It’s okay for goals, dreams, and desires to change.

14. Changing your opinion after learning something new is commendable.

15. Pamper yourself. Self-care is not selfish.

16. Show gratitude for what you have.

17. Never stop reading.

18. Learn to listen.

19. You are not always going to get what you wish for.

20. Patience is fruitful.

21. Be happy.

We cope, we adapt, and we learn, like every other day and year.

It has been a great year, and there is no denying that the coming year will prove to be as sweet as a cherry.
